If you are a Taekwondo practitioner or have studied the
history of Taekwondo, you have more than likely heard of Kim Bok Man. His biography has been published in many books and can easily be found on the Internet.
Throughout his life, Kim has been a student, a soldier, a teacher, an actor, a writer, a humanitarian, and always a visionary.
Facing incredible odds against a mighty foe, the people of Goguryeo under King Yeongyang displayed an indomitable spirit and withstood four massive invasions.
While each invasion sapped their strength and resources, they held firm. Their resistance led to the crumbling of the Sui Dynasty.
Promoting Respect, Justice, and
Self-Determination
People bow for many reasons. It may be for a simple greeting, a way to say thank you, or some other common courtesy. But when a true student of our Art bows, that simple act often carries with it a much deeper meaning. When bowing to an instructor, a training partner or a competitor, the Taekwon-do bow imparts gratitude for help in becoming a better martial artist, which, in turn, facilitates
building “a more peaceful world.”
